Sabbatical Lesson #2 – Beyond

It is the word that keeps sticking – beyond.

It popped up last week in the blog post – some fell on good earth and produced a harvest beyond his wildest dreams – and the word remains front and center. As you may know, the last few weeks have been a break for me; a chance to pray, reflect, and think about what comes next in terms of calling. So far, the word I keep hearing is – beyond.

A surprise has been how strong this word has come not through me but from others. Others have prayed, talked, and even in a couple of cases had visions and then made the effort to share what the Lord was pressing each of them to say.  Now this may sound crazy and if you message me I will tell you where to send the psychiatrist, but what each has shared holds a common theme. These messengers have pushed me to pray about possibilities that are far beyond anything I would have considered on my own. It’s almost as if a word is coming to me from people beyond me.

Each conversation has been folded into my prayers with this result – to prayerfully consider everything. And while I do protest – I could never do that….I’ve never done that before – I find those protests wilting in the presence of my faith and most certainly in the presence of God.

The verse that comes to mind?

Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us, to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever.  – Ephesians 3:20-21

To hone in on it a little more – to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think – is the part that sets off sparks.

A friend shared with me this – rarely are the best decisions we make to do what we have done before. We are far more capable than we know – not because we are so able, but because He is.

Over the next few weeks, perhaps I will discover how true this is.
